Nyquist-Shannon Sampling Theorem
The Nyquist-Shannon Sampling Theorem, also known as the Sampling Theorem, states that in order to accurately reconstruct a continuous signal from its samples, the sampling rate must be at least twice the highest frequency component present in the signal. This means that if a signal has a maximum frequency of f, it must be sampled at a rate of at least 2f samples per second. If the sampling rate is lower than this, the signal will be undersampled and aliasing will occur, resulting in a distorted and inaccurate reconstruction of the original signal. The Sampling Theorem is a fundamental concept in digital signal processing and is used in a wide range of applications, including audio and video processing, telecommunications, and medical imaging.
